I'd been waiting almost a year for this day to come along and it was finally here.
13.30: As me and my friend, Susan, sat on the train we daydreamed about what the concert would be like. Three hours pass so slowly when you're waiting for something.
17.00: We finally arrived in Glasgow, at last.
18.30: Got to the SECC, quickly went in (after buying a t-shirt and poster) and made our way to our seats, which weren't too bad. Now it was even more waiting and waiting. Shortly after 19.30 Masai (a crappy girl band) came on, followed by Fixate (a boy band with ex-solo artist Justin) who were okay, but we were there to see Westlife. Finally Reel came and did a set and boy have they improved since the Smash Hits Tour. They came off stage at 20.30 Next was the longest wait we'd had. The 40 minutes went by so slowly!
21.10: Finally lights dim and the whole place errupts with screams and shouts for Westlife. We see on TV screens the guys walking towards us and then being brought to life by paddles (the electric things that make stopped hearts, start again) and the set revolves around to reveal the guys in armour looking mighty fine!! "Dreams come true" kicks off the show and the boys are really proving to us that they can dance! They looked soooooooooooooo good! In the middle of the song, they were stripped from their armour revealing gorgeous white suits. Next they sang one of my favourite songs "No no" accompanied by yet another great dance routine. At the end of the song the lads talk to us with Bryan joking 'We've now come to the end of the show'. Thank God, he was only kidding!!! Next up is "If I let you go" then things were slowed right down with "Swear it again".
The lads then disappear and the dancers appear on stage along with chairs and the boys reappear to sing "Somebody needs you" which they did brilliantly, this was one of my favourite parts of the show because of the dance!
They disappear once again and come back out wearing big, warm coats and they start walking on treadmills built into the stage. "Season's in the sun" starts up and the TV screens behind them are showing different seasons. As they move through the seasons the guys take the sleeves off the coat, then the whole coat. After that Kian, Bryan and Mark thought it would be cool to start undoing their trousers, but to everyone's disappointment they didn't take them off. It must be said that the t-shirts they were now showing were fairly dodgy: Kian, darling, fluorescent orange is not your colour!! The dancers then came on again and while the guys sing "I have a dream" they sing it in sign language. I think they did another song after this, but because I'm not 100% certain anymore I can't fill you in on which ones.
Everyone leaves the stage and we see the dancers changing into all kinds of outfits: a catsuit, cowboy, and "When you're looking like that" kicks in. I really liked the way they presented this song, it was excellent. The guys are now wearing denim-type clothes. I can't remember the exact order of songs but I think they did "You make me feel" after that followed by Bryan's trick where he gets the whole audience to blow together and the mike stands move towards them (on the treadmills from earlier). Finally they finish off this part with "My love".
Kian now appears on stage on his own with his guitar to tell us that the other guys have left to go home and he's been picked to carry on with the show on his own. He decides to play "Wild thing" much to everyone's amusement, however after just 1 verse the others appear on stage and they sing "More than words" and part of "My girl" acoustically. This is then followed by a number of bits classic songs: Can't get next to you, Ain't too proud to beg, Baby I need your lovin and finally What becomes of the broken hearted. In the middle of this medley they introduced their band. Each member introduced one band player and then danced about. At a certain stage when Mark was introducing the bass player Bryan was dancing about and he shoe fell off. He went over, picked it up, smelled it then went over to Nicky who refused to smell it. Then he pretended to throw it into the crowd and then Bryan put it back on again. Very funny to watch. After the medley they do "Fool again" and leave the stage a gain.
The lads then reappear on stage in boiler suits with their names on the back and a car (along with L-plate) comes on stage ready to perform "Uptown girl". I didn't like this song much when I first heard it a couple of weeks ago, but I really love it now, they present it so well. They then finish off their set with "What makes a man" and say their goodbyes.
The audience of course wants more and scream for them to come back which they do. They are in white again and perform "I lay my love on you" with a new dance routine. It's not as good as the old one, but it's still really cool. They then disappear behind their set for ages and nobody knows what's going to happen next. The set then opens up to reveal them strapped onto a metal frame which starts moving across the crowd while they perform their final song "Flying without wings", an excellent way to end the show.
22.45: end of show and everyone is pushing and shoving to get outside.
I loved the show so much, I think it was the best concert I've ever seen. Even all the Boyzone and Backstreet Boys concerts I've seen don't compare. They had you on your toes the whole time, you really didn't know what was coming next. My favourite parts of the show were "Somebody needs you", "When you're looking like that" and the end. The ending was really really good. I hope there weren't too many mistakes in the playlist. I wasn't 100% certain about some parts so I'm sorry if I was wrong. I wish I could see the show again, I really hope they release a video of it sometime.
