THIS is going to be a nail-biting week for all of us lads here in Westlife
as we wait to see how our single, Fool Again, is going to perform in the
charts.
If it goes in at Number One in the UK we'll create history and go straight
into the Guinness Book of Records, beating everyone from The Beatles to
B*Witched.
It would be our fifth-in-a-row number one single to follow Swear It Again,
If I Let You Go, Flying Without Wings and I Have A Dream.
We'd love to do it, but it's just going to be such a nerve racking week. It
will be a real nail-biter. We'll have the fingers gone on this one.
We'll be on tenter hooks the whole week, although we will have a fair idea
mid-week how things are going. But we won't be able to breath easy until
next Sunday afternoon when our manager Louis Walsh will phone us to break
the news.
UNFORTUNATELY we wont get the chance to fly home to celebrate if things go
our way as we re going to be away for time next couple of months.
We're off to America in the first week of April to do a full month of
promotion there. Our single, Swear It Again, has been released in the US and
it's doing far better than we ever expected. It will be five or six weeks
before we get the full chart, as things work differently in the States.
After our time in America we'll be back on a plane heading to Asia for our
first major tour. We're going to be doing live shows, performing to 10,000
people every night. Then it will be back to the US again, so our feet won't
be touching the ground for a long time.
It really is a mad, mad life in Westlife at the moment. The work is hard,
but we're living our dream and loving every minute of it.
Being away is what we have to do now, it's our life. It's what we dreamt of,
it's what we asked for. We have trained ourselves, given ourselves a crash
course and just got used to it. We are deter-mined to enjoy every second of
it.
The last year we have been in more countries than you could nearly count.
It's been an amazing year, but we just want to top it every year.
TO give you an idea of what a day in Westlife is like, one day recently we
got up at six in the morning, we did SMTV CD:UK. Afterwards, we went to
rehearse for a show at the London Palladium. Then we did the Red Alert
lottery show. After that, we went on to the London Palladium to do a
performance there. Then we did London's late night GAY club, finishing up at
three in the morning.
That was a 21-hour day. It doesn't happen every day, but it happens once or
twice a week. But we usually put in an 18-hour day. You have to do that
kind of work to get your Number Ones, we know that and we make the most of
it. We have a bit of fun as well.
I'M a massive fan of Westlife and I'm really lucky as I've met you all
twice. I've also been to all the concerts you ever performed in Dublin,
mostly achieved by queuing for hours, but definitely worth every minute. I'm
still entering every competition to try to meet you again because you are
all so sweet and friendly. By the way, Shane, Mark and Kian, I absolutely
adore your accents. Puddles of cuddles.
JULIE WATSON, Dun-boyne, Co Meath.
I THINK Westlife are the best band in the world and I think Kian is the
sexiest member of the band. I would do anything in the world to meet
Westlife.
URSULA McCABE, Tara, Co Meath.
ANYTIME I see or hear you all I smile from ear to ear. I can't get over the
fact that five talented, gor-geous lads like you could be so down to earth.
Keep up the good work and best of luck in America.
ROISIN BUCKLEY, Carrigt-wohill, Co Cork.
THANK you for making my life so much happier since the beginning of
Westlife. Mark is really my favourite as he has such a good voice and is so
quiet. I am delighted you have this page in the Sunday World.
HAZEL MCGOWAN, Sligo.
I LOVE you all so much, especially Nicky. You have brought me so much
happiness in my life. Thanks! I hope to see you in concert. I'll be there,
every step of the way. Good luck and lots of love.
AMANDA JORDAN, Ferns, Co Wexford.
