This is a great job all of the time. But some days are better than others.
Like the call we got this week to invite Westlife to a big fashion shindig
in Rome.
The chance to hang out with a thousand models. But, to be honest, give me an
Irish girl any day.
Backstage, they were all walking around in their high heels...with their
noses even higher in the air.
We learned at this glitzy fashion event, which took place on the fabulous
Spanish steps in Rome, that the most successful models in the business are
the ones that look like a total bitch up on the catwalk. So, maybe the ones
I met were just practising for their stint on the stage.
Armani were the sponsors of Westlife, so we all got fantastic Armani gear to
wear when we performed Fool Again for all the big names in the audience.
I couldn't believe it when I looked into the crowd as we walked out on stage
and saw Cindy Crawford. How I found my voice after that, I'll never know.
It was a bit nerve-racking for us because all the big guns from the world of
fashion made up the audience, people from Armani, Gucci, Versace and Dolce &
Gabana.
We have a fantastic following in Italy, but it's not a great country for pop
concerts and big music shows.
So the fashion extravaganza gave us the opportunity to go there and show our
fans what we can do, as the event was televised.
Our new album will be a treat for fans
After the thrills of mingling with beautiful models, even if they didn't bid
us the time of day, it was back to work in Sweden, where we're busy working
on our new album.
I have to admit that I'm more excited about the album as the songs we're
doing are more than I ever hoped for. They're stunning.
If you like our first album, and I know from the letters to the Westlife
column here in the Sunday World, that you really, really loved it, then I
can promise you a real treat with the next one. It's going to be a hundred
times better quality.
The style has moved on a bit and it has matured, but the big surprises will
be the big, up-tempo tracks. I'm sure a lot of people will be glad to hear
that.
The song I was working on just before I took time out to write this week's
column is a really hard-knocking, fast one and I just know you'll love it.
There are also some exciting mid-tempo as well as lots of lovely ballads. We
are all very excited about them.
Looking back on the success of our first album, we think this one is even
better and, hopefully it will be a lot more successful as well.
Watch out for news on the release of the album, although there's a lot more
work to be done before it hits the shops, sometime in October.
Right now I'm thinking about packing my suitcase again as we're planning to
fly off to South America in a week or so. And we'll have all the goss on
that in the coming weeks.
Thanks to all our fans for the support.
Love from Westlife.
Westlife I love you to bits. I think you are the best band in the world. I
have your album, your video and lots and lots of posters of you. There isn't
a day goes by that I don't listen to your songs. My favourite one is
'Seasons In The Sun.' All of you are gorgeous, especially Nicky.
Lisa O' Gorman, Co Dublin.
Westlife I think you are the best band in the whole world. I only ever saw
you once, that's when me and my friend saw Bryan outside Plant Hollywood. I
would love to meet you properly. Bryan you are my favourite and I love you
to bits.
Denise Weekes, Clondalkin, Dublin 22.
I just want to tell you that I think you are the most gorgeous, talented
lads I've ever seen. Kian you are my favourite because of your piercing blue
eyes. But, most importantly, you have got a wonderful voice.
Louise Beamish, Warrington, England.
Shane you are my favourite in Westlife. I'm going to your concert in March
2001 and I hope to see you then.
Lisa Peppard, Clondalkin, Dublin 22.
Westlife every time I see you in the paper, I have to cut it out. I love all
of you. I always have to buy the Sunday World now that you are in it and I
watch Top 30 hits because you might be on it.
Anita Carroll, Co Caven.
I love Shane, Nicky, Mark, Bryan and Kian and my biggest dream is to one day
to meet you in person. I would really love that.
Kate Cleere, Co Carlow.
