THIS week we got an unexpected holiday at home after Shane came down with
the flu.
We were due to fly to Sweden on Wednesday to begin writing songs for our
next album, but as Shane couldn't travel the trip was delayed until
yesterday.
That was a bonus as Bryan and myself were involved in a charity five-a-side
out in Portmarnock, so we were around for the entire tournament.
Unfortunately, we were beaten 3-2 in the semi-final on Thursday night, but
it was great fun.
Neither of us had played soccer for about two years, but Bryan had scored
seven goals and I had clocked up five by the time we were beaten.
It was a charity tournament to raise funds for the asthmatic association and
it was in honour of a young guy called Colin McKeown, who died from an
asthma attack a couple of years ago. He was a friend of one of my friends,
so that's how Bryan and myself ended up being involved.
We called our team The Spice Girls and it was great fun going along every
evening and togging out for the match.
There was a fantastic buzz as well on Portmarnock beach as around 800 people
turned out each night to watch it.
WE are all still recovering from Shane's 21st at Lillie's Bordello on Monday
night.
That's a party that Shane will never forget and he was delighted that so
many people turned up.
As we walked down Grafton Street to the venue I could see all the
photographers and fans waiting outside. Suddenly there was mayhem and
everyone was trying to get a little piece of us going it. Inside, the place
was buzzing and the music was from all decades, from the 50s right up to the
present.
Ciaran Carthy, a friend of Shane's from Sligo was the DJ, but he was also
joined on the decks by our Bryan.
So, happy 21st again, Shane, and thanks for the party invite!
The fun didn't end there Shane, Louis, Georgina and myself also went to see
Tina Turner in the RDS on Tuesday night. That was a special treat for me as
I'm a big Tina fan.
One of my favourite all time songs is Simply the Best, so when she performed
that it was a real thrill for me
IT was a great week of celebrations all round in Westlife. Kian was on a
high after passing his driving test the previous Friday afternoon. Now that
he has the licence, he wants to buy his dream car.. .a Porsche. Now there's
flash for ya!
IF you haven't already heard of a group called the Vard Sisters, then watch
out for them.
They've got a new album coming out later this year and Shane and Mark will
be featured on it singing with them. Mark went into the studios this week to
do his vocals with them, That should be a good one
BY the time you read this we'll probably be in the studio in Sweden working
on our own new songs. So we'll keep you up-to-date on what's happening in
next week's column.
WESTLIFE, take advantage of my two for one special. Kiss one of my lips and
get the second one free. But, boys, I bet your feet are tired cause you've
been running through my mind all year.
Lynn Mulvany, Sallins Park, Co Kildare.
The Westlife column and the Sunday World are the BEST. Once Westlife went
overseas I thought you'd forget about your Irish fans. But the Westlife
column is a brilliant idea to keep in touch with all the fans here who love
you. I think Shane and Mark are the sexiest men in Ireland. Your biggest
fan.
Nicola Donohue, Loughrea Co Galway
MY biggest dream in the world is to meet all of you. It's so great that you
have a column in the Sunday World because I look forward to it every week. I
love your music and you are all gorgeous, especially hunky Shane. Please
play in Kerry.
Michelle O'Connor, Ardfert, Co Kerry.
My cousin and I are your No 1 fans. We think Kian is gorgeous. Bryan is
nuts. Shane is the best singer. Nicky has lovely hair. Mark makes funny
faces. My sister met you at the Royal Variety Show and you signed a calendar
for me. In my world you are everywhere.
Leann Ward, Killiney, Co Dublin.
WESTLIFE I love you all so much. I have 102 posters of you, all your CDs, a
scrap book full of info and your video. You are great.
