THIS has been a big week in my life - it's the week that I finally decided
to set the record straight about my relationship with Kerry.
Not that I was hiding anything, as all the fans were aware that Kerry is my
girlfriend. But I hadn't come out and said that we've been actually engaged
for a whole year.
We both felt that the time is now right to tell everyone and all we can hope
is that people will be happy for us.
As those of you who are lucky enough to have found love will probably agree,
you just want to shout it from the rooftops.
It's not that easy in our case as our management and record companies didn't
want us to tell the world about our love.
It shouldn't make a difference to the fans because I know that all you want
for all us in Westlife is to be happy. And if that means falling in love
with someone, well, I know no one will think any less of us.
Special and romantic
When I decided to propose to Kerry I wanted it to be really special and
romantic. So I took her to Donegal and asked her to marry me at the same
spot where my grandad asked my nana to be his bride.
Of course, I did the traditional bit beforehand by asking Kerry's mum for
her permission to marry her beautiful daughter. Luckily, she said yes.
Nine months later, I proposed all over again - just to make sure that Kerry
realised I really did mean it. I gave her a white-gold engagement ring with
a criss-cross and a diamond in the middle.
Because I'm going to be really busy with Westlife this year, we have decided
not to wed until next year. I just didn't want us to get married and then
have to go back to work the next day. We both wanted it to be really
special.
Although Kerry is from England, we are going to live in Ireland where we're
now in the middle of buying our dream home. Kerry loves it here just as much
as I do, so I'm really lucky in that respect. In fact, life couldn't get
much better for me right now.
Kerry has spent Christmas with me, and I took her along to Cinderella at the
Olympia on Monday. I thought she was going to die laughing at Dustin. It's a
really fun show and it brought me right back to my days in the Billie Barry
school. Great memories.
I WATCH all the shows that you are on and what you always say is how you
want to make people happy. Well, I just want to say that you make me very
happy. Thank you, Westlife.
