Den 2 host passes test and will be with us in Telethon
Hi Kian here,
THIS week there have been lots of secret, behind-the-scenes talks going on
between ourselves and Den2 presenter Damien McCauI who has always fancied
himself as a member of Westlife.
He's a fierce nice fella and all the lads are only too happy to have him in
the group. Damien fits in well.. . he's got the looks, the voice and the
nifty dance moves.
Dustin kinda fancied himself as a teen idol as well, but he's a veteran of
the music industry and we were looking for someone fresh.
Damien passed the test with flying colours after we tested him out on our
hit, Flying Without Wings. The great thing about our new member is that
everyone knows Damien and he has a huge number of his own fans, who are our
fans as well.
So if you want to check out the new look Westlife with Damien McCaul, catch
us when we perform together at the Telethon People In Need event next Friday
out in RTE.
It's going to be a hectic day for us as we'll be singing and presenting on
the TV spectacular. As well as performing Flying Without Wings with Damo,
we'll also be singing Fool Again, If I Let You Go and Swear It Again.
It'll be one of our rare Irish performances over the next few months as
we're heading off to foreign parts later on Friday night.
We jet out to Tel Aviv that evening and we'll be doing our first live tour
playing places like Dubai, Manila, Bangkok and Singapore. We then go on to
the States, so that's going to keep us away from home for some time.
WE'VE had a week off and it was great to get home and catch up on all the
goss with family and friends. It was also great to sleep on into the
afternoon, something we never get the chance to do these days. We just never
get enough sleep anymore, hut who's complaining.
I met up with friends and we went out for a few drinks and to the local
clubs. Shane and myself also got together and went out playing indoor
football with a gang of friends.
We're fit enough guys, but indoor football it pretty hectic and neither
Shane nor myself could walk afterwards. We were like too old men hobbling
around the place. Mark was also very sporty during his time off, as he hit
the tennis courts and showed off his skills.
Shane also served up a few bags of chips to customers in his family's
restaurant. So we all did kind of normal things.
YESTERDAY was my birthday so a big celebration was being planned as l write
and this morning l expect to have a hang-over. I'll tell you all about the
party in next week's Westlife column here in the Sunday World.
WESTLIFE, Seasons In The Sun is my favourite song because Nicky and Shane
sing my name in it. I'd love to meet you and I'm looking forward to seeing
you in con-cert next Marcb 2001 Lots of love.
Michelle Murray Castle-knock, Co Dublin
I ALWAYS go mad when I see you on TV and my mam tells me to calm down. I'd
love to be a pop star myself and have Louis Walsh as my manager because then
I'd get to hang out with you. Love.
Anita Gallagher (13), Ballinrobe, Co Mayo
I THINK you're the best band in the whole world. Your album is so cool and I
know it off by heart. I can't wait for your concerts next year and I promise
I'll be there.

WESTLIFE, you have gone where no other band has gone before and you've
broken all records. I am so proud of you and always will be.

I LOVE Mark the most. He's the biggest hunk in Westlife. When I found out
that you are going to be singing in the Point I was so excited. I've got my
tickets and just can't wait.
Claire Lynch, Tralee, Co Kerry.
SHANE arid Nicky you are just so gorgeous. I can't wait for your next album.
