THIS week we had the thrill of appearing on a star-studded show in Los
Angeles with the likes of Whitney Houston, Puff Daddy, Toni Braxton,
Santana, Faith Evans and Annie Lennox of the Eurythmics.
The venue was the same place where the Oscars are held and the live concert
will be shown on TV in May with an audience of 40 million viewers, so it's a
major boost for us.
We sang Swear It Again, which has now been released in America, and we were
accompanied by a live band, so that added to the excitement of the
performance.
I have to admit we were pretty nervous starting off because we were
performing in front of such major celebrities, but it went down really,
really well. The a capella was very strong as well.
The concert was organised to celebrate the fact that our record label,
Arista, is 25 years in business and it paid tribute to the founder Clive
Davis, who has been very good to us.
After the show we all headed off to a major party in the exclusive Bel Air
area of LA where we hung out with Whitney Houston.
Although she is such a huge, huge star, we found Whitney to be a very
friendly person. She came over to chat with us, congratulated us on our
success and the fact that we got five Number One hits in the UK.
She asked, 'Are you enjoying it?' We told her that we were having the
biggest thrill of our lives living out every teenager's dreams.
But she warned us, 'In six months time you're going to be absolutely
shattered from all the work you're going to be doing.'
So far, we have no complaints. We had a couple of days chilling out over
here and we managed to get in some shopping as well, so we're having an
absolutely great time.
THE news from home about our concerts at The Point has really blown us away.
I'm told that there are now TEN SHOWS and that's just phenomenal. All I can
say is, thank you everyone for your Loyalty and support.
Boyzone holds the record for the most number of shows at The Point and now
we're going to break that. That's incredible, but it's not like we're in
competition because we have such respect for those guys and they have always
been very supportive of Westlife.
Some people were complaining about the shows going on sale so early, but I
think it's a good thing because it gives everyone the chance to get tickets
and the more we sell the more shows we'll do. At the end of the day, we hope
everyone will he happy.
It's going to be our world tour. We start in the UK, bring it home to
Ireland and then on to Europe, Asia and, hopefully, America.
At the moment our single, Swear It Again, is moving steadily up the charts
and heading for the Top 10. As we said before, it works differently over
here. Singles go in low and rise - at the moment we're at No 55.
But each week more and more radio stations pick up on it - there are so many
radios stations over here and it's important to get played on all of them so
that people hear what we have to offer.
