Open Your Heart
(based on a fan fic by Toni)

The smile was gentle and warm, a friend-to-friend smile but somehow it turned me weak at the knees. Swallowing stupidly and trying to think of something intelligent to say, I was acutely aware of how stupid I must have looked.
"Erm...hello? Can you hear me?"
I glanced at my shaking hand, and lifted my gaze to meet my best friend's.
"Yes, thanks Kian." I choked, giving my best friend of seven years a friendly grin. "I'll survive."
Kian nodded and leant down to my heart. "'s cute isn't he?"
As he stolled back into the party, I cursed the level of friendship. Kian Egan knew me all too well, we might spend months apart but the moment we were together it was there, a unique bond. I'd never met the rest of this band, Westlife, and now Kian had noticed immediately how attracted I was to . Kian didn't miss anything, that was for sure.
Annoyed but happy we were still close, I followed Kian to .
turned to me.
"Hi, how are you?"
Hyperventilating, I thought. God! He's gorgeous! I thought, blushing slightly at the thought. The blood flushed to my face and I tried to blink back the sudden embarrassment.
"I'm okay." I managed to squeak out. Kian put an arm around my back, and I happily leant on him for support. His grip was warm and he held me close, it reassured me - he'd always be there to lean on, when I needed him. It cleared my mind.
"Good." smiled. That smile...I drifted off into a world of my own.

Kian looked at , swaying gently in the arms of . What was bugging him? Some feeling was bubbling inside of his stomach and it was worrying him.
"Don't frown," a familiar voice said. "You'll spoil your good looks," Kian broke into a smile and turned to . "Sorry, I've been so miserable."
"I know why."
"Oh yeah?"
"Okay, maybe I don't."
Kian chuckled and leant back onto the wall, watching and dancing closely together.
"They look cute huh?" said after a second's silence. "Hmmm," Kian said, the feeling in his stomach getting worse.
Something hit him...and it was going to change his life forever.

I could still feel 's body pressed against me, a ghost of attraction that was stuck in my mind. He'd held me so close, his hands gently supporting me...I'd been in heaven. Now, a different, familiar arm was around my shoulders.
The Sligo rain poured down on the both of us, but we just walked happily in a peaceful friendship.
The heavens suddenly opened and Kian dropped his arm and grabbed my hand. Giggling the entire way, he dragged my back into his house just avoiding a major soaking.
"Look at you - it's ruined your hair." I chuckled, knowing it was an area Kian was unsure about. "Oh shut it you!" He laughed, smiling at me with an old smile. We knew each other, there was nothing to be hidden.
"You like don't you?" He said, handing me a mug of coffee and beginning to towel himself dry.
"Hmmm," I smiled, knowing he already knew.
I didn't notice Kian's smile fall.

"What do you mean you have a girlfriend? I'm in love with you!" I yelled, wanting to punch from hurt.
"I'm sorry!" pleaded. "I care about you, but and I...we go way back - I'm sorry."
He walked away. That was it. I collapsed back in Kian's living room and closed my eyes. I'd lost my only chance of love - it hurt to admit it.

. . . . . . .

The arm around me was familiar again, but exciting. It made me tingle all over. It was raining again, and I could feel Kian's body heat down my side...and it strangely excited me.
"Look at me hair," Kian laughed looking in a shop window. He pulled me closer and turned to face me, it was such a natural move - one gentle move so we were facing each other, head on.
"It's never looked more attractive to me," I whispered, ignoring the busy Sligo streets. Kian was famous, he sung songs and performed to audiences of thousands of girls. His face was known, he was on girl's walls all over the world. But in front of me, was Kian Egan, my best friend, not Kian Westlife. He was mine, my best friend and the one guy I was meant to be with. And just standing looking at each other, I think we both knew it, right there and then.
I knew he was going to kiss me, but it was a matter of waiting. I tilted my head up and our lips met.
my only chance of love?
Not quite. Kian...my soulmate and one I was meant to be with.
