We all piled out of the car, I looked around. The place looked great. "Hey guys are we gonna have fun or what?" he said turning to see the lads in snuggles with their girlfriends. "Oh yeah" replied Mark turning to look at Chloe giving her a passionate look. Ugh!!! I thought to myself. What about me, everyone else is in a great relationship, why aren't I???

I walked up the steps to the balcony of my little villa I had booked for the weekend. Everyone had there own. It was a cute little thing. One bedroom, a kitchen, a large flat screen TV with an all round surround system, a private spa and a seven head shower.

I walked over to the stereo, opened my CD case and put in Michael Jackson's Bad CD. I wandered through to my room, grabbed a fresh lot of clothes walked to the spa, and jumped in. I felt so alone, I longed for someone to hold, someone to call when I was stressed, had things on my mind, someone to comfort me when times were bad, someone to love me they way I'd love them. But that was just a dream. I laid back and closed his eyes.

Knock knock "Room service." Called a voice. "Hello?" She called. I jumped out of the bath. Water splashed everywhere. "Coming…" I called. I ran to the main room, in just a towel, dripping with water. I pulled open the door. A lady walked in, followed by a younger girl, she was about 17. "Sorry, I just flew in, and I needed to relax for a few minutes, I must have fallen asleep, please excuse the mess." I said in a quiet apologetic voice. "That's fine" replied the women. "That's what the retreat is for. Usually this room would be last on the list for cleaning, but all the others across the courtyard have do not disturb signs on their doors" said the women. The thought of all the lads relaxing with their girlfriends crossed my mind again. I sighed to myself. "My name is Rita, I will be at your service all weekend, if you need anything, just pick up the phone, press 6 which is my room number and I'll be here in a jiffy. Oh I nearly forgot this is Vanessa, she'll be here through the school holidays. She'll be helping me. She's number 14. So if you need anything, just call one of us" I thanked them both.

Rita seemed like a nice woman. She was about mid fifties, you could tell, her eyes had gone dull, but there was still a bright flame glowing inside. Vanessa, well she was just amazing. She was tall, dark brown hair with a great smile, and the most gorgeous eyes I had ever seen. I didn't realize I was staring at until Rita began to speak again. "Mr. Filan? Would you like us to clean the mess you have in there?" she said pointing to the water-drenched bathroom. "Oh no, please don't. I can't have you two beautiful women in there cleaning up after me" I said in a shy embarrassed voice. "It's no problem at all Mr. Filan" said Rita in a professional voice. "Please, no, it'll be fine. I'll do it in a moment." I replied. Rita smiled. Well Mr. Filan I hope you enjoy your stay, and don't forget the phones just over there" said Rita pointing across the room to my bedside table. "Thank-you so much" I said shaking both of their hands. "It's a pleasure" replied Rita. Vanessa just smiled her brilliant smile.

I walked back into the bathroom, what a mess. I was so embarrassed to believe that they saw that mess. I cleaned up, walked over to the stereo, which was still playing mellow. Switched it off, picked up a book by WB Yeats, snuggled up on my bed and began to read. I couldn't concentrate; all I could see were Vanessa's eyes, and her smile. I just couldn't resist it. I got up peered around, the villa was tidy, I picked up the phone dialed 14.

"Hello?" answered a sweet voice. "Hello??" she said again. "Oh hi" I said. "Oh hello Mr. Filan, how may I help you?" "uh… uh… can you come over ?" I asked stuttering. "Yeah sure."

Knock, knock. I pulled open the door, beaming with a smile. "Hello Mr. Filan" said Vanessa. "Um… what exactly would you like, you see I don't actually know what I'm doing." "Oh um… yeah" I said looking around. I spotted a spider in the corner. "Ah you see that, over there?" I said. "The spider?" She said questionably. "Yeah, the spider. You see I don't like them. Do you mind?" I said. "Sure Mr. Filan, not a problem, I'll remove it immediately. "Oh, Vanessa, uh… you can call me Shane. I don't like the sound of Mr. Filan. It just sounds too professional for me." "Oh sure thing Mr. … I mean Shane." She smiled, her eyes cheerfully looking at me.

We both sat on the couch. I looked into the corner. "Wow, you know, that corner looks a lot better without that spider." I said laughing. She just smiled. "Well Shane, I should be going now." Vanessa said looking into her lap. "Do you have to?" I said in a voice that sounded really childish. "Well I don't have to, but well, it is getting late. Rita's probably wondering where I am." She said looking embarrassed. The next few minutes were followed by silence. I was just looking at her, I think she knew that too. She began to look uncomfortable. "Hey, do you want to come out to dinner with me and some friends" I asked her. "She looked up, her eyes changed immediately and began to sparkle once again. "Dinner?" she asked. "Yeah dinner, you know, the evening meal" I said laughing. "Yeah, I know what it is silly" She said. "But I can't go like this, look at me, I doubt jeans and a sweater are dress code around here." She looked great in jeans, I mean, she'd probably look great in anything. "I wish they were." I replied, "I hate getting dressed up." I looked at her, already she was looking excited. "Right I said, I'll pick you up at 7.00pm, is that alright? I asked. "Sure that's fine. I'm room number 14, right across the courtyard." She called walking out the door. "Bye" I called after her.

I walked up the steps to room 14. I was about to knock on the door when it opened. "Wow. You look great." I said. I could tell my mouth was open, but it would close. She blushed, "Thanks." "Should we get going?" I asked. "Yeah sure" she said in a shy voice. I could tell she felt uncomfortable. I was meant to meet the guys where we parked to cars. I walked through the main reception with Vanessa's arm linked into mine, across the front garden over to the cars. The lads were all mucking around like usual. Chloe and the girls were just chatting. Bryan had seen me. "Wahoo… whose this?" he yelled wolf whistling. "Oh lala" called the others. I walked upto them, "Hi Mark, Kian and Bryan. This is Vanessa." I said in a proud voice, she was something to be proud of. "Pleased to meet you they all said taking turns to give her a kiss on the cheek. I'm Kian, this is Mark, and that's Bryan. These three lovely women over here are our girlfriends. This is Chloe, Meredith and Monique." " Nice to meet you" they all chanted shaking her hand. The guys were all giving me that look, as if to say 'you hound dog you!'

"Right should we get going everyone?" I asked, quickly, trying to avoid they lad's eye contact. "Yeah, lets get going" called Meredith. We all piled into our cars that we had rented from the airport. I had gotten first choice with a BMW Roadster Z3 convertible. It was a great night, so we decided to put the top down while travelling to the restaurant. It was a great little place, with everything you could dream of on the menu. We ate, and chatted. Vanessa was getting on great with the girls, and the guys for that matter. I just sat there and watched her, thinking, wow, how come it happened here. Why doe's she have to be here? New Zealand is just so far away. She's the most gorgeous thing I've ever seen and I'll be leaving her tomorrow. I was still staring at her when she looked at me, her eyes laughing. She just looked at me, and gave me a sweet look that made my heart melt. Mark saw it. "Hey who wants to come for a walk?" He asked. The others took the hint and got up and left. Each flashing me a look. Vanessa was still looking at me. She was so beautiful. I couldn't believe it. She made my stomach flutter, and my heart collapse each time I looked at her. Her stare was so intense, I felt the moment, I felt my lips moving towards her. Her lips were so soft, and her kiss so passionate, I knew right at that moment exactly what I was missing out on all that time, what I no-longer wanted to miss out on.

On the way home she leant on my shoulder, her eyes still full of laughter. As she smiled and chatted away, it just hurt my heart thinking about Monday morning, when I'd leave. I wish I could take her with me.

We got back to the retreat. All the others had arrived earlier and were in their rooms. Their lights on, do not disturb signs hanging from the three villas. As Vanessa and I walked through the light lit courtyard. When we reached the center, we hugged. She kindly parted with one of her kisses and planted it on my lips. We embraced for what seemed like forever. We let go. I didn't want to. "Would you like to come over?" I asked my head facing the ground. "Ah… yeah. Why not" was her reply. We walked hand in hand to my room.

The next morning I woke to the sound of birds outside and the smell of English muffins. I got out of bed looked around for my robe. I couldn't see it. So I put on some boxers and walked into the kitchen. Vanessa was standing over the bench pouring orange juice into glasses. She was wearing my robe, and looked just as beautiful as the night before. "Mornin' gorgeous" I said planting a kiss on her cheek. "Hey there sleepy head. How was your sleep?" "I slept beautifully as if an angel was lying beside me, oh wait there was." I said stealing another kiss. "Hahaha, very funny Shane." She said sarcastically. "I'm serious honey," I said. "Oh you're just a big sweet talker." Vanessa said grabbing my waist and pulling me towards her. As we embraced again. I never wanted to let her go. And I wasn't about to either. "Lets go out onto the balcony and eat this morning. I'll just try and find another robe." I said. "Oh sorry darlin' I took yours. Do you mind." "Oh no, absolutely not, you look gorgeous in it. I'll just go and put something on, and I'll meet you on the balcony" I said. Vanessa wandered out onto the balcony.

It was Monday morning. My flight was at 11.30am that gave me approximately 2 hours with her, as it was almost 9.30am. I wandered into the bedroom, wondering what to do.

I wandered out onto the balcony. Vanessa was halfway through a muffin. "I see you found a robe there Shaney." She said in a sarcastic voice. I knew why she was sniggling too, it was two sizes too small. It was a woman's one. "Hahaha, that's not funny Ness." I said in a baby's voice. I sat down at the table, leant over and gave her a morning kiss. Picked up the glass of orange juice and began drinking.

I only managed to get through half a muffin. "What's wrong Shane? You have to eat." Vanessa said in a worried voice. "It's… it's…. Just, well food makes me sick when flying, that's all." He said stuttering, trying to find the right words. "Are you sure?" she asked. "Yeah baby, I'm fine." I said walking back into the villa. I walked through to the bathroom. I was so heartbroken. I couldn't leave her. I couldn't give up on love, I knew it was love, and I wasn't about to give up that easily. I turned quickly to see Mark and the boys standing there. "Hey, how did you get in? I was on the balcony." I questioned. "Yeah we know you TWO were on the balcony. Shane you like don't you?" asked Kian. "No Kian, I don't like her?" I said with a sore-heart. "What do you mean you don't like her, look at her, she's gorgeous." He demanded. I looked out the window. Her face was glowing, her eyes sparkling. "Kian, I mean I don't like her, I love her!" I spoke, as if was the most obvious thing in the world. "You what?" they all asked. "I love her," I said. "Oh no, now we're in trouble!" spoke Bryan, smirking. I just stood there dumbfounded, watching her nibbled on her English muffins and sipping orange juice. I could feel my heart tearing inside. Just looking at her gave me butterflies. I had to do something.

The guys had left, I was about to walk outside, when Vanessa came in. "Hey Shane, what's wrong?" she quizzed. "It hurts me to see you like this. Come here" she said indicating for me to move towards her. I walked over, she put her arms around my neck, ran her fingers through my hair, stroking my neck. I began to weep. I let go, and ran outside into the courtyard, I couldn't face her. Not like this. I decided to take a walk. I needed to clear my head, put everything into proportion. Work it all out.

I came back. She'd gone. There was a note.

Shane, I've decided to go home, finish work early, it hurts me to think you don't want me there. Like earlier on this morning. I hope you have a great trip home. I'll think of you always, every morning when I wake up, and every night when I go to sleep. I'll love you forever Mr. Filan.
Forever yours,
Vanessa Charteris.

I began to cry, hysterically, how could she have gone, the only one I have loved, she just left, and it's my fault. Why didn't I tell her? Why did I have to be like I was? Arrgghhh!!! "Shane, Shane, what's wrong?" asked mark, who'd run in from outside. " Oh Mark, she's gone! She's gone!" I cried. " She's what?" he questioned. "She's gone!!!" I replied hysterically. "Why? Why?" I repeated. Chloe walked in, "Oh Shane" she said. She was standing outside when Mark came over. She gave me a hug. "Hey it'll be alright. Look, we have to go. Our flight is in 20 minutes. Mark, do you want to go and grab his bags?" she ordered. She was so understanding.

We traveled to the airport in peace. Meredith had taken my car, and Bryan drove me in his car. I was so upset, I never spoke a word. "All passengers boarding flight 761 to Heathrow Airport London please make your way to gate 4" a voice clearly spoke over the microphone. "Come on Shane, that's us" Bryan spoke. "I'll just be a minute." I called back. I sat down. I looked around, this was it. I'd never see her again. I began to weep. It wasn't fair, why did this have to happen to me? "Last call for all passengers boarding flight 761 to Heathrow London, please make your way to gate 3" the voice spoke again. I picked my bags up, walked over to gate 3 with my head down. "Ticket please, thankyou, and enjoy your flight said an attendant" I began to walk through the terminal gates. "Shane!! Shane!!" I turned, and there she was, tears streaming down her face, her mascara had run across her face, her eyes were red. "Oh Shane, I almost lost you. I didn't mean what I wrote in the letter. I just felt angry, annoyed how you just thought it was you, the one who'd have to put up with the pain. But it's me as well. Mr. Shane Filan, I … I… I love you! "She screamed. "I love you. I always will." I grabbed her, gave her the biggest longest most passionate kiss that anyone could ever give some one. "Oh Ness, I love you too. Ever since I saw you I knew you were the one." I cried. "Excuse me Sir, your flight is about to leave." Said the flight attendant with a smile on her face. "Excuse my language Miss, but stuff the flight! Let it leave without me… this is where I am staying for now." I cried. "With you Vanessa, with you."

"Hey Louis, it's Shane here" I spoke into my mobile. "Hey Shane, how are ya? He quizzed. "Oh I'm great, excellent in-fact. I have something to say though." I said cautiously. "Yeah Shane, what is that?" Louis asked in a sarcastic voice. "Well… uh… umm…" I mumbled. "Shane, I know. Yes you can have more time in New Zealand." He said cheerfully. "Huh? How did you know?" I curiously asked. "Lets just say I know people eh?" he laughed. I looked out the terminal window. Saw Bryan holding his mobile up to the window and just laughed at the departing plane.
