It was 7am on a Friday morning. I was in the kitchen getting breakfast for my two children when Shane came downstairs.
"Good morning" I said "did you sleep well?"
"Fine" he replied helping himself to some orange juice. As I watched him sit down at the table I still couldn't believe he was here, but only for one more week, then he was going back to Ireland.
It was 6 months since I had entered the competition 'WIN WESTLIFE FOR A MONTH'. They had wanted to escape the pressures of fame and so had come up with a competition where 5 lucky winners could have one of the guys to live with them for a month. There were two basic rules, we were not allowed to let anyone know they were with us and they were to integrate themselves into our lives and live within our means.
I was in shock for days when I found out I'd won Shane for four weeks, and I was unsure as to how my husband would react, but fortunately he was fine and the first couple of weeks went amazingly well. My children had somehow managed to keep quiet about our houseguest and by the end of the second week were treating him like an uncle. My husband had also accepted him and they spent many hours playing computer games.
During the third week things started to change, Shane withdrew into himself and I would often find him in his room, and there were times when I would catch him staring at me and then he would look away suddenly. I thought that maybe he'd had enough of us and wanted out but when I asked him he always said he was fine.
This Friday morning he seemed a little more his old self.
"What do you want to do today?" I asked him, I had the day off and the children were both at school all day.
"I thought I'd go for a walk with the dog if that's ok." he replied.
"Fine." I said, our dog had been in seventh heaven since he arrived as taking her for walks over the fields was one of the only outdoor things he could do without the fear of being recognised.
When I returned from school he was on his way out with Pooch our scruffy little mongrel dog, complete with the all too familiar hat and sunglasses.
"Enjoy your walk." I said as they left.
"I'll try." he said holding my gaze for a little longer than usual. I decided to have a relaxing bath and collect my thoughts while they were out. Having Shane here was fantastic, he was much better in the flesh than on the T.V or in a magazine. He was a really nice guy, totally down to earth and really sexy. I knew I was developing feelings for him that I shouldn't and seeing him go the next week was going to be damn near impossible.
After 45 mins I got out of the bath and wrapped in a towel I lay on my bed and drifted off to sleep, my head filled with thoughts of Shane.
I woke suddenly with the feeling I was being watched. I opened my eyes to find Shane sitting on the edge of my bed next to me. I sat up, my face turning crimson, I'd planned to be dressed when they got back. He must have seen the look on my face as he said,
"I'm sorry, I didn't mean to startle you."
"How long have you been here?" I asked.
"Long enough to see how beautiful you are." he replied.
"Excuse me?" I said unable to belive what I'd just heard. Here I was a 28 year old, married, mother of two dressed in nothing but a towel, and Shane was telling me I was beautiful. I must have been hearing things.
"I can't hide it anymore." he said "I've been trying to for the past week but everytine I see you I just want to hold you in my arms and kiss you."
"But I'm married with children." I said "What can you possibly see in me."
"You're gorgeous, funny, sexy and I'm falling in love with you. I know it's wrong but I can't help the way I feel." Shane replied, leaning towards me he took my face in his hands and kissed me. I know I should have told him to stop but I couldn't, all the feelings I had tried to drown in the bath came back to the surface. As I put my arms around his neck my towel fell away and what happened next shall remain private.
The next week was very difficult, we took what moments we could together but I knew he found it difficult seeing me go to sleep with my husband every night. By the Wednesday neither of us could take it anymore, my feeling for him were so strong that I knew I couldn't say goodbye to him on Friday. We were having lunch when he asked me the question I'd been waiting for.
"I want you to come back to Ireland with me." he said "I love you too much to let you go."
"But what about the children?" I said.
"Bring them too. I want us to be a proper family, you, me and the children. Please say you'll come."
Well what could I say, what woman would turn down an offer like that.
Six months on we have a lovely house near Sligo, Shane is teaching the children to ride his horses and we are trying for a child of our own. We plan to get married when my divorce comes through. Who says dreams don't come true.....
