Angel's Eyes

“I have to get out of this place”, Sidney said to herself. She packed her things up and off to the airport she go.

She arrived at L.A. with one thing on her mind. To find her best friend, Kian. He doesn’t know she’ll be there. Not a single idea at all.

In the meantime, Kian and Shane were driving towards Kian’s house.

“What am I going to do, Ki?...I’m desperate...help me..”, said Shane miserably.

“What do you want me to do? I want to help you, Shane. I really do. But I don’t know where to find you a girl to present to your parents.” Kian answered.

“Well, maybe at your school or somewhere you know a girl who Mom will approve of”, said Shane.

“Look, man, there’s so many girls who I’m sure will bite their heads off just to get near you...just pick one of ‘em.” Kian said trying to be reasonable.

“Uh-Uh...you’re forgetting something man. I need a girl who’ll pretend to be my girlfriend for almost a month with no strings attached, ok? After that, nothing as in zilch.” Shane replied continuously.

“Oh yea...forgot about that. Uh, Shane?”
“What?”
“Your problem is that your Mom’s trying to get you hook up with someone, right?”
“Yeah, like I’m afraid to go back to our house coz there might be another girl inside my room waiting for me there...that sort of thing.”
Silence.
“What are you thinking?”
“Then...maybe YOU would have to find a girl you know your Mom will not approve of...that way after the pretending she’ll not wish to see that girl again.”
“But what if...the girl fall in love with me? Consequences, man. Besides, I’m not ready to enter to a serious relationship...yet.”
Kian laughed.
“We’ll just have to make sure the girl you went with have no feelings for you...”
Shane’s face brightened. “Yeah...I think you’re right. After this, Mom will surely tell me to break up with her, after the break up I’ll tell her I need some time and then she’ll stop playing cupid again. Yeah...It’s perfect! But where would we find such lady?”

“That’s the problem,” said Kian as the engine died down. They went inside and stopped just to see Sidney sleeping on the couch. Like an angel.

Kian and Sidney haven’t seen each other for about 6 years. So naturally, Kian doesn’t recognize who the beautiful young lady is. Shane couldn’t seem to take his eyes off her. He could stare at them forever.
Kian went down to wake up Sidney.
“Hey, Miss...”Sidney slowly opened her eyes and stared at Kian’s.
“Hello there, Ki” She said with that smile that could melt anyone’s heart.
Kian was surprised.
“Who are you?” Sidney was still lying on the couch and just staring at Kian.
“What? You don’t remember me? I’m hurt, Ki,” She said teasingly. “Maybe this will help you remember...”
slowly Sidney met Kian’s lips with hers. Just a gentle kiss. Kian responded to it. She tastes so sweet and Kian felt like he’s drowning. Then suddenly, Sidney bite his lower lip.

“What the..?!..” Kian said in mock surprise. Shane couldn’t believe it either but he’s amused by the girl.
Sidney laughed. And it’s like music to Shane’s ears. She’s nearly in tears because she laughed so hard. Her dimples show.
“Ki...I’m Sidney!”
“S-s-sidney..? Is that really you? I can’t believe it!”
“Hey, you don’t think I can kiss like that, don’t you?”
Sidney looked up and saw Shane standing there just watching them.
She smiled at him and Shane approached her and introduced himself.
“Hi, I’m Shane and I supposed your name is Sidney?”
“Yeah, nice to meet you Shane. What’s with you Ki? You alright?”
Kian can’t seem to believe that the girl he just kissed was Sidney. Sidney was 2 years younger than him and Shane. They’ve been Best of Friends since they can remember. They’re more like of a brother and sister. Nicky, Sid’s older brother at times was jealous of them coz they’re so close than them. Her baby? Is that really her? Whoa! She changed. I mean really changed into the prettiest and sexiest girl he’s ever seen.

“Hello? Earth to Kian? Anybody home?” Sidney peered over him.
“Where’s Nicky?” he asked instead.
“I’m really hungry, Ki. I mean, I’ve been here since 9A.M. and it’s past 12 now!”
Sidney went into the kitchen.
“There’s food in the fridge why didn’t you cook?”
“You’re trying to make me laugh, aren’t you? You know, I don’t know how to cook. Just hurry, will ‘ya?”
Shane and Kian looked at each other and Kian just shrugged.
“Well...? Shane asked.
“Well what?”
“Are you two...ummm..?” Shane asked hesitantly.
“What?! Are you kidding me! No! We’ve been friends for a lifetime, Shane.”
“Oh...really?”
“Really!!!”
“Ok, ok...”
Sidney shouted from the kitchen for kian to hurry up.
Kian sighed.

The three of them ate silently.
Kian broke the silence.
“Where’s Nicky, Sid?”
“Huh? Umm, he’s in Ireland.”
“Where’s your parents then?”
“Back there.”
“Then who’s with you here?”
Sid didn’t answer.
“Sid...?”
“I’m alone.”
“WHAT??!!”
Kian knows that Sidney’s not allowed to travel alone. Nicky wouldn’t want that. Much as her parents.
“Hey, lower down your voice, ok?”
Kian sighed. He calmed down himself before asking.
“I’m sure they know you’re here...right?”
“No.”
“Ok...what’s the problem? Spill it out.”
“hmmm...listen...You see, Mom wants me to help clean the house as in like including the garden, pool...the WHOLE house, Ki. Got it?”
“Yah, go on...”
Shane watched in amusement how her face expression changes. It’s so beautiful. Such an innocent girl.
“I don’t want to do it.”
“I’m sure it’s just not that, Sid.”
“Oh ok! Another thing, they want us, Nick and me to study manage our business. Nicky’s studying now. And he loves it! But I don’t want to.”
“What’s wrong with that?”
“What’s wrong with that?! Ki, my whole social life would be over. Can you imagine me sitting there for some boring lecture while my friends are on the beach for vacation?! I can’t!”
Kian sighed resignedly.
“I know you’ll let me stay in. If not, then I might as well go somewhere else...If your conscience can handle that...”
“Ok you win...”
Sidney jumped form her chair and hugged kian.
“Oh thank you, thank you so much!”
“What if they called and look for you here?”
“Don’t worry about that I’ll call Nicky later and tell him not to worry.”
“Sid...”
“I know, Ki but its’ just that...it’s boring there!”
Kian can’t help but smile. Suddenly, the phone rang. Sidney picked it up.
“Yea, hello?”
“Hello, Is my darling there?”, the flirtatious voice in the other line said.
“Ooppsss...I’m sorry but there’s no one named “Darling” here,” she replied sarcastically.
Kian almost choked. He stand up and tried to get the phone from Sid.
“I meant kian,” the other line said.
“Who’s this?”

“Katherine”
“Oh he’s eating...I’ll tell him you called, ok?”
“Wait, I need to talk to him. It’s urgent.”
“Hey, I told you I’ll tell him you called, ok? Bye!”
Kian looked at her angrily.
“What’s that all about? Why didn’t you give me the phone?”
“Chill, Ki! You’re turning red.” She drank her juice and stood up.
“It’s for me, sid and this is my house.”
“Geez, sorry...Who’s that katherine anyway?”
“Uhh...she’s s-she’s my...”
“God, Ki. Just spill it out. Why don’t you just tell me She’s your girlfriend! No big deal!”
Sidney laughed, stood up and went upstairs.
Kian’s left red with embarrassment. Shane started laughing.
“What are you laughing at?
“Nothing”
Kian stared furiously at Shane. “Its not funny! Oh, I’ve got a headache.”
“Seems like, Sidney takes up a lot of your energy, isn’t she?”
“That’s Sidney, Life with her is NEVER BORING!”
After an hours and a half, Kian picked up the phone to call Katherine. He heard Sidney talking with someone on the phone. She told Kian to wait. 30 minutes later, Kian picked up the phone and she’s still not done.
“Sidney! Hurry up, will ya?”
“I’m talking with a friend, Ki! Just another minute!”, Sid shouted back.
While waiting for the phone. Kian and Shane talked about Shane’s problem. Later, Ki went to the phone and still she’s not finished.
“Who the hell is that you’re talking with, Sid?!” Kian shouted from the living room.
“She’s Nique, shut up, ok? I’m talking.” Sidney shouted back.
“But...”
“Look, Ki, she’s in Canada and this is long-distance. Now if you’ll let us talk in peace.”
Kian couldn’t believe his ears! Long-Distance to Canada!
Kian sat in the couch. And shook his head. Kian looked up at Shane and saw him controlling his laughter. Then a smile crept to Kian’s lips.
“Shane, I think...I found a solution to your problem...”
“Really? What is it?”
“Sidney...she’s perfect!”
Shane was stunned. Sidney as her girlfriend?
“Do you think she’ll agree on this?”
“Let’s try.”

They went to her room and knock. She let them in.
“What are you two doing here?”
Shane almost gasped as she saw Sidney wearing a short negligee. Not that seductive type but it just looked sexy on her.
“Hey listen, we’ve got something to tell you...”Kian said.
“What is it?” Sid asked puzzled.
“Shane, you tell her...”
“Ok, you see, I need a girl to ummm...present to my parents as a girlfriend.”
“What do I have to do with it?”
“What am I saying here is...I’m asking you to be my girlfriend. I mean, to pretend. For almost a month.”
Sidney went quiet.
“Do I have a choice?” Sid looked to Kian then to Shane.
“Apparently, yes. Two. 1. You may say “yes” to Shane’s proposal or 2. you may pack your things up right now and prepare for the very next flight.” Kian said.
“WHAT?!” Sid was shocked. Shane, too.
“Nicky called and they’re really worried about you. You said you’re going to call them but you didn’t...” Kian said.
“What a choice, Ki! Like I have no choice at all...” She said bitterly.
“Ah, you don’t have to do this to her, ki. “ Shane
whispered to Kian trying to lessen the tension.
“I have no choice, Shane “ he whispered back.
Sidney turned her back to them.
“I guess, my answer MUST be number 1, huh? So you got it!” She said coldly.
Shane shook his head sadly. Kian told Sid to ready her things for they’ll be leaving the next morning.
“Sid, I’m sorry...”Shane started.
“Nah, It’s ok. It’s not your fault.” She said tearfully.
Oh, how he hates seeing her like this. He wanted to see her smile again. Her captivating eyes.

Early next morning, Shane’s driving with Sidney beside him. They ride in silence. Shane broke the silence.
“Are you mad at me?” Shane asked.
“With you? Of course not, why would I be mad? There’s no reason at all...” Sidney said. Her gaze outside the window.
“Oh...” was all Shane could said.
Later on, Sidney said excitedly.
“Oh, I know what we can do...We can call Ki and teach him a lesson!” she exclaimed.
“Uh, Sid I don’t think he’ll want that.” Shane said hesitantly.
“Of course he will...trust me.”
Before Shane could protest, She have dialed Ki’s number.
“Well, hello there Darling..” Sid said flirtatiously. Controlling her laughter.
Shane could only shook his head. He loves everything she does. Wait, did I say love?
“Katherine?” Ki’s.
“Why, of course. Darling...How are ya?”
“Uhmm...quite fine. Where are you? Why does your voice sound different?”
“Oh, my voice? Err, Yan this is my voice ever since...like hello?!”
Pause.
“Oh yah, so...Babe, did you like what we did last night? You really turned me on...like putting me on fire...You really are hot, know what I mean...?”
Kian’s voice sounded a bit weird like he’s controlling not to laugh.
“What? Err, oh, that. Uhmm...I like it very, very much ki...so?” Sid wasn’t sure of herself now.
Kian continue.
“Would you like me to come over there or you’ll go here? I mean, I really miss your touch, your lips, your ummm...well you know...you are so sexy and I want to spend the night with you...again. ”Kian said huskily.
Sidney blushed just as Shane looked at her.
“Are you ok?” Shane asked.
Sid nodded. Then turned back to the phone.
“Ummm, ki...I’m not...Katherine...”
Silence.
“Well, I know.”
“What? you know? But you continue still to say those...” Sidney cannot continue the rest.
“Sorry Sid...”
Paused.
“Oh well, it’s my fault anyway...”
“Hey, about what you said a while ago, did you and Katherine...?”
“A bit.”
“Kian!”
“Hey, I’m just kidding!”
“It’s not funny!” Sid exclaimed with a pout.
Kian laughed at the other end.
“So does this mean I’m forgiven?” Kian asked uncertainly.
“Yeah, sorry, too, ki.”
“No prob!”
Shane said we’ve reached their Villa. I quickly said goodbye to Kian and turned off the CP.
“You and Kian seems really close as in very close, huh?” Shane asked.
“You can say that again..”

“Mom, Dad, meet Sidney my girlfriend” Shane introduced.
“Why, hello, Sidney! We’re so glad you can make it...”Shane’s Mom said.
Sidney blushed as Shane’s Mom hugged her.
“Now, let’s eat. Come, come!”

“Shane never told us how’d you met...so how did it goes?” Shane’s Dad.
Sidney’s not prepared for this but Shane explained immediately.
“We met at a friend’s party. I immediately fell in love with her the first second I laid my eyes on her...”Shane said staring intensely at Sidney. Sidney doesn’t know what to do so she joined the conversation.
“And so do I with your son. He’s such a caring and the most wonderful guy a girl could ever wanted...”Sidney said avoiding Shane’s eyes.
Shane’s parents exchange glances and smiled at each other.

After dinner, Shane took Sidney to her room.
As she was about to go in. Shane stopped her.
“Sidney...”He began.
“Yeah, Shane” Sidney couldn’t explained the erotic beating of her heart as she stared at his hazel-green eyes.
“Uhmm, I-I-just want to thank you for doing this...”Shane said shyly.
“No need to thank me, Shane. I mean it’s kinda I’m on vacation or something...”Sidney said looking away from Shane.
“Thanks anyway. Ok, I won’t keep you stay up all night...Good night.” Shane said although not moving.
“Ok, Goodnight then...”Sid said as she was about to close the door.
“Wait...”Shane said
“Yes, Shane?”
“Uh, nothing...good night again...”Shane said then turned away.
Sidney could just stare at his back confused.

The next morning, Shane’s parents insisted that they go horse back riding.
Shane looked at Sidney.
“Do you know how to ride?”
“Uhmm, not really...”
“Come, I’ll take care of you...”Shane said then took Sidney’s hands.
It sounded like an angel’s voice...I’ll take care of you...Shane’s words.

They’re riding only one horse, Diamond, Shane’s holding Sidney carefully as if she’s a crystal. They joke all the way. And talk about anything. About their love life. They’re dreams. They seem to know each other way back.

“Do you have a boyfriend left in Ireland?” Shane asked trying to sound casual.
Sidney was quiet for a moment.
“No.”
“No? The guys in Ireland must be pretty blind to not notice you...”
Sidney just smiled.
Silence.
“Why me?” Sidney asked suddenly.
“Why you?” Shane said puzzled.
“I mean, why do I have to pretend to be your girlfriend?”
Shane kept quiet then sighed.
“Mom, she wants me to you know, settle down...”Shane doesn’t know how to continue this to her.
“But you’re not ready? And you want me to pretend just to spite her that you need more time to pick, I mean to find a girl just right for you...”Sidney continued for him.
“Yah! Exactly! How did yah know?” Shane’s eyes sparkles with excitement.
“Well, let’s just say it’s based from experience...”Sidney sadly said then looked away.
Shane wants to ask more about what she said but Sidney quickly changed the subject
It got Shane confused and he wants to know why.

4 days have past, instead of the real plan, to make Shane’s parents hate Sidney, with each day that passes by they like her even more.
At dinner...
“Shane, when are you and Sidney will get married?” Shane’s Mom.
Sidney’s spoon stopped in the air. Shane choked and drink water immediately.
A little while.
“Mom...”Shane began.
“Why! You have to plan your wedding soon...Shane, you’re not thinking of letting someone like Sidney go, aren’t you?” Shane’s Mom said accusingly.
“It’s not that Mom...”Shane said desperate.
“Then what is it, Shane Filan?!”
Shane’s Mom turned to Sid whose eyes are fixed on her food.
“What about you, Sidney?”
Sidney looked up and saw Shane’s Mom really worried. She couldn’t lie anymore but she had to.
“Mom...” Shane’s Mom insisted she call her so. “Shane and I...”she began.
She looked at Shane and Shane dropped his gaze...he thought she’ll tell on him.
“We want a long engagement...”Sidney said finally as Shane looked at her.
“Oh, well, I think it’s fine...a minute ago I thought you’re splitting up...that will surely break my heart...”Shane’s Mom said tearfully.
“Mom, that will never happen, I promise...”Shane said reassuringly then look at Sidney.
Sidney doesn’t said anything.

Days seem to passed by so quickly. It’s been a blast for Sidney. She have never felt this way to anyone...but Shane’s not just anyone, is he? He’s so special. She can’t understand what he made her feel.

“Sidney, wait up! Please...” Shane shouted running after Sidney. Sidney stopped but didn’t turn back.
“What’s wrong? Where are you going?” Shane asked with a genuine concern.
“I-I-have to go...” Sidney stammered as she tried to kept back her tears.
Shane cupped her face and look straight into her eyes.
“Babe...” Shane whispered.
“Please tell me what’s wrong? I can’t bear seeing you like this...” Shane pleaded.
Sidney turned away and walk off . Shane ran after her.
“You can’t just walk off with something like this, Sid. You know that!”
“Oh the hell with that Shane!”
“Sid, come on...please don’t leave me...not now...”Shane pleaded again tears welling up.
Sidney looked at him with tears in her eyes.
“I love to Shane but...I’m confused right now...and...I’m...I’m...”
“You’re what babe?”
“I’m scared Shane”, with this Sid cried and Shane hugged her.
“You’re scared of what? Please, you know you can tell me everything...”Shane kissed her hair and whispered into her ears.
Sidney step back a little and said.
“I’m scared to get hurt again...to fall in love and then just realized in the end that I have lost the person I’ve love so much and care about...I don’t want to get hurt and...and...to lose you...”
Shane didn’t know what to say all along they’re feeling the same way for each other.
“Babe...”Shane started but Sidney step back.
“Don’t...”
“Sid, you’ll never lose me. I promise...” Shane reaching out to her.
“You can never tell that for sure, Shay...” Sidney said as she started getting into her convertible.
Shane stopped her and held her like he never did with other girls for that matter. He hugged her full of love and the next thing they knew they were kissing passionately like there was no tomorrow.
“Babe...”
“Shane”
They looked into each other’s eyes and once again they were locked into each other’s arms.
“I love you, Sid...more than you’ll ever know...”Shane just pulled away a little to whisper these words.
“And I love you, too, Shay.”
